Nissan X-Trail: The Epic Drive The abbreviation "SUV" stands for "sports utility vehicle," and the appearance of SUVs such as the Nissan X-Trail visually alludes to a way of life that includes activities such as going to the beach with a car full of surfboards or traveling to an off-road trail with a muddy mountain bike strapped to the roof. If you take a look at the majority of so-called "SUVs" that are currently available on the market, you'll notice that the definition of the term "SUV" has become somewhat diluted. Nevertheless, the fact that an X-Trail can be purchased with as many as seven seats makes it an appealing alternative to an MPV, and Nissan claims that it can enable an entire family to go on adventures together. The bad news is that the X-Trail is no longer available to be chosen with four-wheel drive, but the good news is that its higher ride height should come in useful for individuals whose lifestyle takes them farther off road than to a wet camping. The single engine choice available is a turbocharged 1.3-liter gasoline unit that is paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission with seven speeds (there used to be a 1.7-litre diesel as well, but this has now been discontinued). In addition to this, there is just one well-equipped trim level available, and that is the N-Design. Because the X-Trail has a gently sprung suspension, you could feel some bouncing as it goes over large potholes. You'll also notice that it requires a short amount of time before it can restore its composure. It will also thump and quiver when it encounters sharp-edged bumps in the middle of corners, and it will only feel entirely settled on highways if the surface is completely smooth. Because of its soft suspension, the X-Trail leans considerably into bends, and its poor steering means that you need to move the wheel quite a long distance, even when you are just making very shallow turns. The dual-clutch transmission shifts smoothly through its gears and maintains the engine rpm at a low level whenever it is feasible to do so. The 1.3-liter gasoline engine is rather quiet, and it does not transmit an excessive amount of vibration through the steering wheel. Adjustments for the height of the driver's seat, as well as adjustments for the reach and rake of the steering wheel, are standard on every model. Lumbar support that is fully adjustable for the driver is included as standard equipment beginning with the Acenta trim level two. Even while the X-Trail provides a comfortable driving posture for the vast majority of people, drivers with very lengthy legs will find themselves coming into regular touch with the center console. The controls are positioned in an accessible location and the dashboard of the X-Trail is organized in a simple and logical manner. The buttons and switches are all big and simple to work while you are driving. In addition, they have a positive motion and are accurate in their responses. Although the high driving position and large windshield of the X-Trail allow exceptional forward vision, the X-bulky Trail's door mirrors may sometimes block your line of sight when approaching intersections. However, even with those large mirrors, rear view in the X-Trail is not very good since the back screen is rather high and the rear pillars are fairly thick. The X-Trail seems to be put together with a decent amount of care and precision. The buttons on the dashboard are pretty well damped, and the dashboard itself makes use of textured plastics with a soft-touch finish and accents made of contrasting silver. However, there are some fragile plastics around the door pockets, and each time you shut a door, you are met with an unpleasant tinny twang. Because of this, the automobile has a much lower sense of luxury in comparison to a good number of its competitors.
