The California coast, especially in northern California, has to be seen to be believed. The Pacific Coast Highway was thoughtfully constructed to run nearly parallel to its wild, winding course - and in some cases, the road runs immediately adjacent to the coast and the cliffs that line America's western boundary. If you've never driven on the Pacific Coast Highway, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you add it to your bucket list. Especially for those who, like myself, were born and raised on the East Coast and have never experienced anything quite like it before - there's no coastline anywhere east of the Mississippi that can match its rugged natural beauty!
