It was finally time to retire the old PSE and step into a whole new era. After 20 years with the same bow, we headed to Archery Unlimited in Prattville, Alabama to fully rig out a brand new bow. And we're taking you through every step of the process. This episode captures the full bow buying experience: from picking the model to adding sights, rests, stabilizers, a new release, peep sight, arrows, and finally getting it dialed in. We talk setup, gear preferences, tuning, and everything in between. There’s plenty of laughs, a little indecision, and a lot of helpful insights thanks to David, Rick and the crew at Archery Unlimited. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to buy and fully build a modern compound bow, or you're just itching to upgrade your archery setup before season starts this one’s for you. I knew I wanted a top flight bow with all the bells and whistles. While I landed on the Mathews Lift X 29.5, I also looked through other top bows from Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech, Prime, Elite and Bear. We go through the entire process of Mathews Lift X setup and Mathews Lift X tuning. Bow rigging can be a lot to take in because so much goes into a new bow build, but luckily the staff at Archery Unlimited helps me through every step. They had archery bow accessories from wall to wall as you will see in the video. We compared the Mathews Lift X 29.5 to bows from Hoyt, PSE, Bowtech, Prime, Elite, and Bear Archery before making the choice. I can't wait for some Alabama bowhunting this fall and I believe I have one of the best deer hunting bows on the market. The compound bow has changed the face of archery since its invention in the 1960s, evolving from heavy wooden risers and steel cables into today’s precision-engineered systems with lightweight alloys, parallel limbs, and smooth cams. Each generation brought advances in speed, accuracy, and efficiency... carbon risers, vibration dampening, and micro-adjustable rests have made bows quieter, faster, and more forgiving. Yet what makes archery so unique isn’t just the technology, it’s the passion behind it. Archery connects people across time, blending ancient traditions with cutting-edge innovation. Drawing a bow is both physical and mental. It requires discipline, focus, and patience in a way few other pursuits demand. For hunters, archery offers unmatched closeness to the outdoors, a challenge that feels primal and deeply personal. For target shooters, it’s the endless chase for perfection. No matter the path, the evolution of compounds mirrors the evolution of passion... constantly advancing, yet always rooted in tradition. Filmed at Archery Unlimited in Prattville, AL. Their staff was super helpful and knowledgable about everything during this process and I'm thrilled with how it all turned out.
