I wish you could hear David's eloquent and robust introduction to the song. In short, Beechey Island (as you may know) is the location of the first three deaths and marked graves of Franklin Expedition members. As it turns out, these few were the lucky ones - they got graves, last rights and everything! The rest...bits and pieces found in teakettles and such. So the song is a cautionary tale with calypso feel playing on the homophonic name of the island. Some very clever lyrics ending with "You might take a permanent vacation on Beechey Island!"
