This amazing home was occupied by the Union Officers during the Civil War after the Battle of Helena. General Sherman launched both the Battle of Little Rock and the Battle of Vicksburg from this home, turning the tide of the Civil War and ushering in a victory for the Union. We have archival records of the troops use of the house, and the fact that they "carried away whatever was portable" and that the rest was "broken up and ruined"...but what happened to it? Family lore says that MUCH of what was ruined by the troops was put in the attic and forgotten. There's only a tiny door to get into the historic attic, so how could anything really be up there? This historic home holds many many mysteries, and our investigation into them begins in this Victorian Attic Exploration! We know that this beautiful historic home was built in 1858, remodeled in 1870, became a boarding house through the 1930's, was renovated in the 1950's, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1966 and now is on it's way to a true restoration. But first, let's explore the attic! See Helen's full video here • House Tour: Learn The History of Our 1858 ...
