In this video we explain how we clean a tail boom. First we remove all of the exhaust soot from the boom with a mild all purpose cleaner. Then we neutralize it by removing the cleaner with the manufacturers recommended procedure. Not maintaining the paint on a helicopter can become a major problem in short order. Eventually the soot oxidizes the paint so bad it cannot be compounded out. This is when corrosion can start to occur under the paint. Preventative maintenance is your best option. Regular washes, bi-annual polishing and ceramic coatings.
