So what exactly ARE the teacher standards? The information on the department for education website states: “They define the minimum level of practice for trainees and teachers to achieve qualified teacher status.” To summarise this, the standards are a set of requirements that all teachers must abide by in order to achieve their qualified teacher status. Think of it as a tick list that you need to achieve before you’re allowed to teach a class of your own. You need to provide several examples of evidence for each standard. Let’s say 2/3 examples as a guideline. This might look like a lot of information at first, but I promise it won’t take long to wrap your head around them. In this video, I provide examples of how to evidence the teacher standards, as well as explain what to expect when you meet with your mentor.
