Endoscopic sinus surgery is done entirely through the nostrils. There are no cuts on the outside and using the latest techniques, patients typically don't get bruised or swollen. We don't expect any changes to the external features of the face or the nose. Patients are usually treated in an outpatient surgery center or hospital setting and typically the patient can go home the same day. A patient can expect some nasal congestion for a few days to a couple of weeks and some bloody nasal discharge for a few days. Dr. Rehl does not use nasal packing for most types of surgery which means even in the recovery room, a patient should be able to breathe through their nose and then start rinsing their nose out with saline solution the day after surgery. The patient's nasal cavities should not be obstructed after surgery.
