My son once asked me if I could write a song about “Feast Day on the Fifth Day.” I wasn’t quite sure what he meant, and perhaps he wasn’t either, but the phrase stayed with me. In the Catholic Church, a saint’s feast day is usually celebrated on the day of their death -- their birthday into heaven. Thinking of the fifth day led me to Good Friday and the hope of resurrection. I was reminded of a JY service team recollection from 2011, where we reflected on this passage from The Imitation of Christ: "We ought to make our resolution from feast to feast, as if we were then to depart out of this world, and to come to the everlasting feast. ... And if it be deferred, let us believe that we are not well prepared and that we are as yet unworthy of the great glory which will be revealed to us at the appointed time; and let us endeavour to prepare ourselves better for our departure." (Book 1, Chapter 19) This song was written and composed, moved by these reflections, and concludes with the popular night prayer that my mother taught me when I was young.
