From Björn The history behind this one connects once upon a time I listened to Scott Henderson showing his Ibanez SD 9 through his Custom Audio amplifier Now Scott has modified his Custom Audio so it sounds more like a high powered VOX but it struck me as I looked at his settings and he was playing a strat and had the Tone control on the SD -9 set to fully CCW and I thought this must be a very dark sound but it wasn’t and ofcourse he was playing really loud. From my own experience and sounds I used back in the 80’s I noticed that to get really high gain at very loud levels eq needed to be softer than one might set at lower volumes and I spent years finding a medium here that would have sound that would sound equally great regardless of volume. I can say that the LA has sounds that would be monsterous at loud volumes and while recording I was tempted running really loud levels. The HG level came about as I thought of Michael Landau that I saw at same Jazzclub in Stockholm and he was using a tube screamer into a Roger Mayer Voodo 1so the HG mode adds some upper mids to make sound slightly more modern without loosing any bottom or fatness. Now a key to the sounds of these stars including Eric Johnson that uses a BK Butler tube driver is the post eq of a typically dense distortion and for the LA I deviced a three band EQ that allows excellent control over midrange and brightness from soft midrange to protruding midrange to scooped midrange
