Why does sci-fi spaceship design break when traffic scales? Applying bottleneck analysis and systems engineering to Star Citizen cargo ships, we examine the RSI Hermes and Starlancer MAX through the lens of industrial logistics. Most future spaceship concepts start with one metric: capacity. But large systems rarely fail because storage runs out. They fail because time runs out. Dock time. Turnaround time. The minutes spent waiting in someone else’s queue. In this engineering breakdown, Star Citizen becomes a logistics sandbox for examining what happens when throughput overtakes capacity as the dominant constraint. Using Star Citizen hauling ships, we test how flow architecture changes cargo design when dock time optimization matters more than raw capacity. As traffic increases, queue theory, congestion, and constraint driven design begin shaping Star Citizen trading and ship layout. Cargo ships start functioning less like isolated storage vaults and more like parts of a larger transport system. This is bottleneck analysis applied to spaceship design. A look at how industrial logistics, infrastructure scaling, and systems engineering influence the future of cargo transport and future spaceships. Hosted by Dusty Star, this Thrusters & Dust engineering brief explores how real-world engineering thinking shapes Star Citizen ships and the possibilities of future space colonization. ⸻ #starcitizen #engineering #scifi ⸻ New to Star Citizen?
