The disarmed guerrilla group Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) made a new debut on Friday as a newly founded political party at Bogota's central square. A dozen of former FARC leaders and members were present at the new party's first press conference, and the venue was decorated with red roses. As a part of the demobilization under a peace agreement reached with the government, the group launched the process of transitioning itself into a political party which was named the Revolutionary Alternative Common Force, still shortened as FARC. Ivan Marquez, former rebel leader and chairman of the National Congress of the new FARC, said choosing red rose as the symbol of the new party shows the organization's determination and desire of shifting from armed force to peaceful dialog, marking a brand new starting point. "When you see red roses, you see renewed us. Roses have many implications. Roses are beautiful and stand for love, for friendship, and for embracing the world with open arms. That is what we wish to do," said Marquez. The new party said in the future, they will devote themselves to state issues like economic development in poverty-stricken areas, women's status, and anti-corruption. According to the peace deal signed between the government and former rebels, the new FARC as a legitimate party is set to have 10 seats in the Columbian parliament automatically. But the new party did not announce the name list of the ten members at the press conference. Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia, welcomed the founding of the new party. He said the organization of a new party offers an alternative way of dialog and consultation to members of the former armed force group who used to speak with guns. "We don't agree with what the FARC believes. We agree and support that they can express their believes and do politics without violence and without arms. That's the whole purposes of the Peace Agreement," said Santos. http://www.cctvplus.com/news/20170902...
