‧₊✩₊˚.⋆ Explore the archives with me! This video features one of my favorite paintings created a few years ago. It was part of a small series of self portraits, a theme I repeatedly mean to come back to but somehow Life keeps getting in the way. Someday. ☾⋆⁺₊✧.݁₊ To clarify some of my rambling in the commentary regarding using references for paintings: it is something we take for granted that portraits of people throughout history required references -- the person themself. And the paintings reflect that: subjects are finely dressed, seated in a relaxed manner that could be maintained over multiple sessions. As commissions in the days before photographs the likeness was necessary. But when it comes to fantasy art, suddenly there is "drama" regarding whether using references is cheating. Of course I don't confuse internet bluster with real life but in case you haven't heard it said before, this is silly. A fantasy scene rendered skillfully benefits from live references as much as anything. For contemporary examples where you can see what was used for reference compared to the finished product please look at the phenomenal work of James Gurney. He has published numerous books and blog posts sharing his process in detail. Norman Rockwell also famously arranged scenes and photographed them for his paintings. In my case, I take a relaxed approach. The figure is centered in a completely fantastical and cartoonish world where light and shadow are not represented with much realism. And that, to me, is part of the magic of it. By using a photo to guide the placement of light and shadow on the person she now is an anchor in the center of the piece around which everything else revolves. This juxtaposition is something I really enjoy and come back to frequently in my various art worlds. That's all for now, thank you for reading and watching! ♡ Anka of AGblend13 ‧₊✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧.݁₊‧₊✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧.݁₊‧₊✩₊˚.⋆☾⋆⁺₊✧.݁₊ Video created in Kdenlive on a Linux box SHOP ✿ https://artbasealpha.com Website ✿ http://www.agblend13.com Tumblr ✿ / agblend13 Instagram ✿ / artbasealpha Patreon ✿ / agblend13 Pinterest ✿ / agblend13 #femaleartist #contemporaryartist #contemporaryart #newcontemporaryart #selfportrait #portraitpainting #surrealart #weirdcore #galleryart #magicalart #popsurrealism #popsurreal #popart #dreamyart #weirdart #ankayanovna #agblend13 #artbasealpha #speedpaint #timelapse #arttimelapse #paintingtimelapse #artcommentary #asmr #artpodcast #whimsicalart #acrylicpainting #painter #paintingprocess #paintingvideo
