Students will use a variety of materials to create a free standing sculpture. Explore line, shape, colour and Miro’s use of symbols in an activity that combines both 2D/3D elements. Joan Miro was a Spanish artist, born in 1893. Miro’s came from a creative family. His father was an artisan, working as a watchmaker and goldsmith. Miro was influenced by Fauvism and Cubism, and the artists Cezanne and Van Gogh, he began his career by painting figures, landscapes and portraits. Miro worked across several studio areas, including painting, sculpture, drawing and ceramics. His work contains bright colours, symbols and a wonderful use of line. This unit of work gives students the opportunity to engage with different materials and processes and build confidence in art making. The art activities in this unit of work will cover painting, drawing, sculpture and textiles.
