Directed by Indira Larin and produced by Elisa Wettstein under Epi Production, this 15-minutes documentary highlights the significant challenges faced by ultra-rural communities in East Sumba in their daily struggle for access to water. "Matawai," meaning "the source of the water" in the Sumbanese language, unveils the harsh realities of limited clean water access and its profound impact on the lives of women and children, who are often forced to forsake education and family care to meet life's most basic need: water. Amid these struggles, the film showcases the transformative impact of Fair Future’s #WaterConnections program, which is dedicated to improving health and well-being. This initiative not only provides clean water access and installs essential sanitation facilities but also combats infectious diseases like Malaria, Dysentery, and Poliomyelitis, which are prevalent in these regions.
