SUB TO MY PATREON FOR DOWNLOADS AND MORE   / ianmcquaid   Hey! I had such a great response from my last mix highlighting the deeper roots of dubstep that it seemed crazy not to go again. This time round I'm trying to cover the journey dubstep could have gone if it had stayed a purely British sound. To any Americans, don't get it twisted, I love you lot! This is more about UK heritage and the way we shape our genre than shade on anyone else ... anyway - to that end I go further back and further forward in this mix. For the historical perspective, I finish the mix with a fairly obscure 90s cut from The Rootsman. I love this tune and I think it shows the groundwork been laid by the Iration Steppers / Leeds dub scene way before the name dubstep had been coined - it's all in there; deep synths, hard snares, 140bpm and intense sub pressure .. Before that I run a cut by El-B, who was instrumental in laying foundations when the sound was still called garage, and of course there are evergreen tracks from Benga& Coki & Joy Orbison, both of which suggested a path for dubstep to evolve down that wasn't just more bass wubs and louder snares...
