Ahowee - Saljong Tasin Me•chik (Official Music Video)

Saljong Tasin Me•chik is a song based on the legendary Garo Folktale of goddess from Heavens who ventures out all by herself, to find the love of her life, but on the contrary she is devoured by the 'Prince of the underworld', who refuses her attempt of courtship, which later infuriates the Clan of the goddess, subsequently leading to enmity between the two Clans. This song is composed in a Rhapsodic symphony (free flowing structure) portrayed through the lens of Gahon (Theatre), which was widely celebrated prior to the onset of electronic media such as television or radio broadcasts. We are greatly indebted to the Writer of this poem (Shri Monensing R. Sangma) for having left us with this rich narrative that has helped us immensely in bringing this sublime project to fructification. Our aims and objectives in undertaking this project is to try and understand the underlying meaning of our rich oral tradition of storytelling, folklore, cultural narratives passed on by our ancestors, that has helped in shaping the Garo Society. In all earnestness, we have left no stone unturned to maintain authenticity and present to the general audience in apprehending the Garo Culture through the band's prism.
