After successfully touching the rock face of the north slope of Mount Kailash in my last video, I continued my pilgrimage trip around the mountain. Today, I hiked over the 5,630-meter-high Dolma La Pass and returned to Tarchen, following the river valley at the eastern foot of Mount Kailash, completing my three-day trek. This time, I’m about to achieve a remarkable feat: touching both the north and south rock faces of Mount Kailash during one journey. Along the way, I encountered hundreds of Tibetan devotees who prostrated themselves on the ground, circling the sacred mountain in a ritual that takes about 15 days. For centuries, every rock and piece of land beneath the great king of mountains—Kailash—has been worshipped repeatedly by countless Tibetan pilgrims, expressing our spiritual beliefs through their physical devotion. As a Buddhist and a tour guide, I’ve taken hundreds of tourists on this trek to Mount Kailash in past 15 years. Last year, I even led some visitors to touch the north or south slopes of the mountain. Tomorrow, I will enter the core area of Mount Kailash for an inner kora trek on the south slope, carrying the hopes of travelers from around the world as I pray for blessings at the thirteen stupas on the south slope.
