Patient Background The patient is a 45 year old female who tore her earlobe one night wearing heavy earrings, leaving her unable to wear any earrings. The patient waited sometime to get her procedure done but in any case you can get your ear lobe repaired immediately following the injury or wait till the wound is healed. The procedure was done under local anesthesia , numbing only the ear ,as the patient was fully awake participating in conversation with the doctor and staff. Luckily there are no side effects to local anesthesia , it is as easy as going to the dentist office. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. How the Procedure is Performed Dr. Gartner is going to remove the edge of the tissue so that there is raw skin to raw skin on both sides. He inserts " stay sutures" on both ends of the ear to give him more stability while working on the ears. Once raw edge is to raw edge he lines both edges together begin suturing the front and back of the ear. The patient has to wait 6 weeks to get her ear pierced again. She is advised not to re-pierce on the scar. If she pierces on the scar there is a great possibility that the ear lobe will tear again .
