Lovecraft with illustrations by Dan Hillier. ABOUT THE BOOK "The birth of the modern horror story can be traced to the dark visions that crept from the febrile imagination of H. P. Lovecraft at the beginning of the last century. The alien gods, death cults and forbidden tomes that cast their maddening shadows over of his fictitious New England would introduce the world to a new set of terrors, reflecting the strange, uncaring universe being unraveled by physics and cosmology. These ‘weird’ tales, and their vast influence, have since carved their creator a tentacle-shaped throne among the monoliths of American literature." [1] BINDING & PAPER The book is bound in a duotone cloth with the colours green and purple. It's smyth-sewn, with spot-varnished endpapers and printed on Abbey Wove paper in Italy. The illustrations are printed on a different photo paper with the exception of the title page which is also on Abbey Wove. The headband is red and the top pages are gilded. CONTENT The book includes a preface by Alan Moore, an introduction by the Lovecraft scholar S.T. Joshi, summaries of the stories and a note on the text by S.T. Joshi as well.
