Freddie Hubbard was an American jazz trumpeter known for his virtuosic playing and versatile musical style that blended bebop, hard bop, and post-bop jazz. He was a sought-after session player and leader, recording many albums under his own name as well as collaborating with other jazz legends such as Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, and Dexter Gordon. The Freddie Hubbard Quintet in this performance features Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Buster Williams on bass, Michel Petrucciani on piano, and Billy Hurt on drums. This lineup of musicians represents a diverse array of jazz styles and backgrounds, with each musician contributing their own unique sound and approach to the quintet's performance. This concert, recorded and broadcast by Radio RAI Italy, provides a rare opportunity to hear Freddie Hubbard's quintet in action and showcases the musicians' talents and skills in a live setting. The venue is unknown, but the fact that the concert was recorded by Radio RAI suggests that it was a significant performance, likely in Europe in 1984.
