The Sandra Day O’Connor Institute is proud to share that the historic O’Connor House in Tempe, Arizona, has received the prestigious National Trust for Historic Preservation Trustees’ Emeritus Award for Historic Site Stewardship. Once the adobe home of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor—the first woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court—the O’Connor House was saved from demolition and meticulously relocated brick by brick in 2009 to Papago Park. Today, it stands as both a symbol of Justice O’Connor’s legacy and a gathering place for civic engagement and civil discourse. This national honor, presented at the PastForward Conference in Milwaukee, recognizes the Institute’s dedication to preserving the historic home and carrying forward Justice O’Connor’s vision: a place where people come together to address society’s challenges through respectful dialogue.
