Liftoff of the Voyager 2 probe on August 20, 1977, on a Titan IIIE/Centaur launch vehicle. (Voyager 1 was launched afterward, on September 5, 1977 • Voyager 1 Launch - Multiple Cameras, AI Up... ). The first sequence shows side by side multiple views. Individual camera views are then repeated. The footage was AI upscaled/cleaned up and comes mostly from high framerate cameras (running at 48 and 120 fps). The high framerate was preserved on this video, with sequences shown in approximately real-time. Launch sound was added (ambient Titan IIIE launch sound). Two weeks later, the twin Voyager 1 probe was launched on September 5, 1977. However, Voyager 1 reached both Jupiter and Saturn sooner, as Voyager 2 had been launched into a longer, more circular trajectory. Voyager 1's initial orbit had an aphelion of 8.9 AU (830 million mi; 1.33 billion km), just a little short of Saturn's orbit of 9.5 AU (880 million mi; 1.42 billion km). Voyager 2's initial orbit had an aphelion of 6.2 AU (580 million mi; 930 million km), well short of Saturn's orbit. ========================================= A special thanks to the channel supporters ( / retrospacehd ): Asbjørn Bathypterois Drew Granston Elpacholag Francis Bernier Gary Smith Gio Pagliari Glenn W.
