Over the last five years, the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Data Policy Lab at the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research has worked to address gaps in data and research for Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. For decades, these gaps have hindered the ability of NHPI communities to address critical issues such as health, well-being, economic opportunities, and education. On Thursday, May 22, the NHPI Data Policy Lab launched new visualization tools that provide detailed county-level data on health and social drivers of health among NHPI communities. During the webinar, Lab staff shared the tools, which include a social determinants of health dashboard and county-level data profiles, which feature NHPI-specific data from multiple sources. Culturally guided and community centered, the NHPI Data Policy Lab has integrated reviews and feedback from the NHPI community and hosted trainings to ensure the data is accessible and easily understandable for the communities they serve. Pacific Islander Health Partnership and Southern California Pacific Islander Community Response Team (SoCal PICRT) staff presented on the work their organizations are doing, as well as the importance of disaggregated data and access to that data to empower communities and inform decision-making.
