Took a spur of the moment trip down to Mt Bachelor. I discovered Skibowl was the same distance from my house as Bend. Seemed reasonable to drive directly down to Central Oregon for a day at "Oregon's Premiere Bike Park" (according to the Mt Bachelor website) after a day of riding my local lift serviced bike park. This video is one of the mountain's black lines. I apologize about the wind noise the high exposure and wind resulted in some terrible audio. I have ordered a wind filter for my GoPro after filming this video here. Unless you feel at home riding on a beach mixed in with roots and rocks or come here the day after a heavy rain this place takes some getting used to. The first lap down the mountain had me expecting a two wheel slide in every corner. However, after you get over the visual fear of the light colored dust and shift to a more neutral body position you can find some pretty unbelievable amounts of traction on this dirt, and of course on the rock. Relaxing and letting the front wheel float over some of these rocks and root is necessary to maintain speed and hold a line. I found myself grateful to have the chain stay in the long position allowing me to comfortably sit a little further back on the bike and not feel like I was rocking off the back. In the morning the hardest factor to deal with was the harsh sunlight and adjusting your vision going in and out of the trees as you navigated sniper roots and rocks. By mid-day the shadows softened and I was able to unlock a lot more speed through these dark technical sections. This park is probably best enjoyed on a long travel enduro bike on a cloudy day after a good rain. I rarely used all of my travel, and unless you are repeatedly dropping into redline and rockfall a smaller bike might feel a little more comfortable overall and in many of the park's pedally sections. If that magical and rare cloudy wet day is not when you are visiting the park you will not be disappointed. A great time is always had and after a solid day of riding the loose stuff here I felt more confident and controlled on all my local trails.
