Epic Fail - Attic Lift Fall

Welcome to my Epic Fail! I was fortunate to have the security camera in my garage capture my Epic Fail, which is what started my YouTube journey. The ironic part of this story is that I tired of having a sore back from lugging all of the totes full of decorations up and down the attic stairs and this was supposed to make getting holiday decorations down from the attic easier. I designed and built a motorized attic lift to SAVE my back but, with my Epic Fail, I ended up actually breaking it. The hoist frame and platform frame are welded out of 1" square steel tubing and it is powered by a 1100/2200 hoist motor from a local hardware store. The fail is due to a lack of safety awareness on my part. Although I fully intend on installing fall arresters and an auto stop limit switch, I obviously had not done either prior to having the accident.
