JADE plant WATERING (overwatering VS underwatering) OVERWATERED jade plant | MOODY BLOOMS

Shop https://www.amazon.com/shop/moodyblooms for all my FAVORITE plant supplies that I personally love! Jade plants are super low maintenance. Once you get down the watering cycle of Jade plants you will be a pro at caring for these beauties. A happy, healthy Jade plant will have juicy plump leaves. If you lightly squeeze them, they should feel slightly firm and plump. If leaves of your Crassula ovata are wrinkled and misshapen then you may have a watering issue. This is because succulents store water in their thick leaves. In fact, this is why they can go for longer periods without water than other common houseplants. All thanks to those thick juicy leaves. Underwatering: If the leaves of your Jade plant are thin and wrinkled they may be in need of a nice big drink. The #1 thing to do when you see wrinkly leaves is check the soil. Wrinkly leaves + Bone dry soil = in need of water. When you see yellow, shriveling and wilting, and you know you have not watered your plant for a while, then the plant is most likely being underwatered. It may even produce some air roots. Keep in mind, it is perfectly normal for the bottom leaves of your succulent to die as they grow. Jade plants are incredibly drought tolerant, but they still NEED water to survive. Leaving your jade plant to fend for itself for weeks at a time without water, will ultimately deplete the water from the leaves. Thus, causing wrinkled or misshapen foliage. Give your dry Jade plant a good soak and the leaves should perk back up in a few days or so. Unfortunately, there isn't anything you can do about the misshapen leaves on your Jade plant. However, you can remove the deformed leaves if they bother you. Leaf Drop: Overwatering or underwatering your Jade plant can cause leaf drop. A jade plant will tend to drop leaves if the soil and leaves are drying out due to lack of water. If the soil is bone dry and leaves are dropping, get your baby some water ASAP! If leaves are dropping like flies and the soil is moist there is too much moisture. Get that wet soil outta there as fast as you can and repot in DRY soil. Do not water for several weeks. Overwatering: If the leaves of your Jade Plant feel squishy or mushy you have an overwatering problem. The cells of the leaves have too much water and just can’t take it anymore. Personally I remove the really soggy overwatered leaves as I want the plant to focus energy to form new healthy leaves. There are other plant enthusiasts that will tell you otherwise and say the leaves will fall off naturally on their own if they are destined for death. This is because succulents extract nutrients/water from older leaves, and they don’t like to interrupt this natural process. BUT, I personally take them off because I don't like the way they look. It is really up to you. Mushy leaves + Yellow Leaves = Too much water!! Many times when mushy or squishy jade leaves appear you may also see some yellowing leaves. We want our Jade plant leaves looking plump and firm. Mushy leaves are not a good sign, especially if you're seeing dreaded yellow leaves as well. This is textbook for overwatering issues. Lack of nutrients or root bound roots may also cause a few yellow leaves. Keep in mind this is only if you see them without any mushy leaves. When a Crassula ovata is left for many years in the same pot it will eventually deplete all its nutrients. Thus popping out some yellow leaves. A Jade plant that is root bound is possible, yet less common. Roots of Jade plants are thin so they don’t get all crazy like other plants with fibrous Roots. It still is possible though. Especially if left in the same pot FOR-EV-ER (ever see the sandlot??). Anywho…check out those roots if you suspect there is a root party going on down below. If you see tons of roots and it is looking like more roots than soil, then repot that baby up with some fresh soil. This should stop the yellowing as well as make your jade baby super happy. Too much fertilizer could also be to blame for yellow leaves. Too much fertilizer can actually burn the leaves. Ouch! Always follow the instructions on the packaging of your Jade plant fertilizer. Swap out the soil of your over-fertilized soil with some fresh clean soil. DO NOT fertilize the plant for 6+ months. Let that baby heal.
