A new report from the Africa Skills Revolution, an initiative led by Humana People to People and AUDA-NEPAD aimed on promoting youth-led dialogue on skills development and TVET in Africa, captures the motivations, challenges, and aspirations of TVET youth. The results aim to spark action and shape stronger skills ecosystems across Africa. The survey reveals that over 80% of young people see themselves as key advocates for TVET, believing they have an active role to play in elevating its status alongside traditional higher education. This reflects an important shift: Africa’s growing youth population is not merely a beneficiary of skills reforms but is becoming a co-designer of the continent’s future. Their voices must be meaningfully included in policymaking processes. This aligns with the Be Seen, Be Heard report by the UN (2022), which highlights that the current age imbalance in politics is problematic. 69% of people across all age groups agree that providing more opportunities for young people to contribute to policymaking would strengthen political systems. In this webinar, we will explore diverse pathways and innovative mechanisms to embed youth voices at the heart of policy. The session will highlight both grassroots and institutional approaches: from empowering young people to participate in civic activities and community decision-making, to showcasing how governments and organizations have formally included youth perspectives in national and regional policy development.
