This is a dance scene excerpt from the 1930 film "Check and Double Check." The dancing depicted is typical of the era, primarily the One-Step (simply walking to the beat) and Two-Step (in the form of Waltz change steps and balance steps). Dances were often defined by the music and 4/4 time signatures were defined as Fox Trots. Thus even though the One-Step & Two-Step pre-dated the Fox Trot 4/4 rhythm Dance Masters of the period may have described this as dancing a Fox Trot due to it's adaptation to the rhythm. Thus meaning you were using a One-Step figure and putting it in your Fox Trot. Note: this is NOT the Country Two-Step that evolved in the late 1970's but the Ragtime variant that I am referring to.
