In the Silkfold, grief is not spoken plainly. It is carried in symbols. “Son of Caelthar” is an elven lament for a life given in silence and a love that could never be named. It tells of the warrior of House Caelthar 🦌, whose sigil was the stag — a creature that stands its ground even when flight would spare it. Banished along with his house, he returns in secret when he learns of a plot against the prince and the woman he loves. He saves them both. He does not live to see the dawn. The song follows his final moments beneath moonlight, where blood warms the roots and memory overtakes pain. The willow boughs that seem to gather him are not the tree itself, but the imagined embrace of the woman of House Liraenwyth 🍃, whose symbol is the willow — her grief, her tenderness, and the life he cannot share. The river where he falls is remembered not as a boundary or a grave, but as the place where they once met, before duty and politics divided them. Among the Elves, such deaths are not called triumphs. They are called remembrances. The refrain, sung in the old tongue, does not praise glory — it teaches the land to remember love, sacrifice, and the cost of choosing what is right over what is deserved. This ballad is sung quietly in the Silkfold, where willows bend in mourning and rivers remember names long after voices fade. ——— Lyrics: [Verse 1] He falls where moonlight breaks on steel And breath turns silver, torn and thin The world grows still around his heart As if it knows what will not mend Antlers bow to shattered stars Blood warms the roots below The stag is struck, but does not flee He stands so love may go [Refrain] Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Vael norien, vael norien Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Silma loën, silma loën [Verse 2] He sees her once through darkened sight A willow pale against the night Her arms are leaves, her breath is rain That calls him gently out of pain He leans into her mourning boughs Where broken vows grow still The stag lies down where rivers meet And time forgets its will [Refrain] Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Vael norien, vael norien Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Silma loën, silma loën [Verse 3] No crown could weigh as much as this No law could bind him faster He gives his last unguarded breath To roots that will remember If souls are stars, then mark this place Where antlered love was slain The stag rests held by willow arms And grief becomes the land [Refrain] Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Vael norien, vael norien Ael Caelthar, en’na thíriel Silma loën, silma loën #FantasyMusic #Fantasy #fantasyworld #Everfolds #Silkfold #ElvenMusic #FantasyFolk #HighFantasy #ElvenLore #TolkienInspired #Worldbuilding #FantasyBallad #StorytellingSongs
