Part 2 of a recap of the 1988 college football season for the Cowboys of Oklahoma State University. The biggest story of the 1988 OSU football season was the record-breaking performances by Barry Sanders. Sanders would win the 1988 Heisman Trophy after a season that has been called the greatest ever for a single player. Despite playing for only 3 quarters in many games in 1988, Sanders set NCAA records with 2,628 yards rushing, 3,249 total yards, 234 points, and 39 touchdowns. For the second straight year, the Cowboys finished with a 10-2 record under head coach Pat Jones. Quarterback Mike Gundy and wide receiver Hart Lee Dykes joined Sanders as a three-headed monster on offense that rewrote the Big Eight Conference record books. The Pokes capped the 1988 season with a trip to the SeaWorld Holiday Bowl in beautiful San Diego, where they dominated Wyoming 62-14.
