This follows the AMD R9 3900X launch and somewhat displaces the 3950X, despite the latter having a 4-core/8-thread advantage. The AMD R9 5900X most directly competes with Intel's i9-10900K in price, or AMD's own previous R9 3900X. The 5950X is mostly reserved or sensible for workstation PC builds, while the 5900X splits the middle between a true workstation-class CPU and a high-end gaming-class CPU.
