Thousands took to the streets across several cities this weekend to protest in solidarity with anti-government protesters in Iran, where a deadly crackdown has left thousands dead. “While our people and our loved ones are stuck there, are imprisoned as a whole nation there, we cannot just stay silent,” says one protester. While the widespread protests appear to have waned, an Iranian official said on Sunday that the authorities have verified the deaths of at least 5,000 people since the anti-government protests erupted on 28 December.
