BEFORE-AND-AFTER AERIAL FOOTAGE The sand that inundated the Pohoiki Boat Ramp following the end of the 2018 Kilauea Eruption roughly 1 year ago has continued to accumulate since. The majority of the sand washed in the months immediately following the end of eruption, but more sand and rock has been carried by the currents into Pohoiki Bay. Pohoiki Lifeguards inform us that the most significant impacts from Hurricane Erick was sorting of sediments, consolidating some rocky areas into more distinguishable piles. Also, sand on the ocean side berm has been dragged further out to sea, decreasing the slope of the beach into the ocean. Sand overall has continued to work southeast down the coast, wrapping around the point towards ‘Third Bay’. Still remains a huge amount of sand inundating 'First Bay' and 'Second Bay', only small changes overall. Pohoiki Beach Remains Closed Today Due To Impacts From Hurricane Erick. Pohoiki Lifeguards report that beach rescues have almost doubled in the last year following the massive changes at Pohoiki with the accumulation of the new black sand beach. Footage from the last four months through today, here is a before-and-after of Hurricane Erick at Pohoiki Beach. ----------------------- Music Credit: Acoustic Guitar 1 by Audionautix is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)
