The Good Water Project Safe Water Healthy Lives | Good Neighbors Bangladesh Bangladesh is a land of rivers, yet millions of people still struggle to access safe drinking water. Coastal salinity, arsenic-contaminated groundwater, and polluted water sources continue to threaten health—especially for women, children, and the elderly. To address this challenge, Good Neighbors Bangladesh implemented the Good Water Project, a sustainable Health & WASH initiative designed to ensure not only access to safe drinking water, but also improved health, dignity, and quality of life. The project has been implemented in Taltoli and Kalapara (salinity-affected coastal areas) and Sirajganj and Meherpur (arsenic- and iron-prone regions). A total of eight Good Water plants now serve these communities. In coastal areas, modern Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology removes salt, arsenic, heavy metals, and harmful microorganisms, with final UV treatment ensuring safe drinking water. Today, nearly 2,000 families regularly receive safe drinking water. Communities have experienced a visible reduction in waterborne diseases, improved child health, reduced medical expenses, and increased awareness. Women now have more time for family care, education, and income-generating activities. In the Tinnandina area, Sirajganj, nearly 80% of the population has benefited from this initiative, significantly reducing the risk of epidemics and water-related illnesses. The project is sustainably managed through local management committees, with continued support from Good Neighbors Bangladesh. This initiative has received recognition from the Embassy of Japan, local upazila administrations, and elected representatives. The Good Water Project reflects our commitment to sustainable development, Water for life, and responsibility for water.
