AL FAYOUM OASIS 👇🏼 The Fayoum Oasis is a depression in the desert located immediately west of the Nile, south of Cairo, the capital of Egypt. Located less than two hours southwest of Cairo, the oasis of Fayoum is undoubtedly one of the hidden treasures of the country. Made up of numerous lakes and canals, this large region is an ideal place for a weekend break or a day trip for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. WADI AL-HITAN👇🏼 Wadi al-Hitan, the Valley of the Whales, in the Western Desert of Egypt, contains priceless fossil remains of the oldest, and now extinct, order of archaeoceti whales. These fossils represent one of the most important stages of evolution: the beginnings of the whale as a marine mammal after having been a land mammal. It is the largest site in the world testifying to this era of evolution. It shows very clearly the look and life of these whales during their transition.
