Cigar Review – Rocky Patel Number 6 Smoked August 2021 Purchased at local cigar shop Size: Robusto (5-1/2 inches x 50) Approximate cost: US$10.00 See ratings below In the video, I channel (or rip off, depending on your point of view) the musical Hamilton in this Rocky Patel Number 6 cigar review and manage to squeeze in FIVE Hamilton references in just one minute, thirty seconds. Watch what is probably the first and only Rocky Patel Number 6 review done in the style of Hamilton. I love this video, one of my favorites - it's entertaining but says basically nothing about the cigar itself. So here's a review... I'm not a big fan of Rocky Patel cigars - it is spread too thin with way too many brands, their pedigree is from Honduras which is a distant 4th to Cuba, Nicaragua and Dominicana in terms of putting out quality cigars, and importantly, my batting average of hitting a good RP is spotty at best. Not to say Rocky Patel always puts out lousy cigars. That is far from true - I love the Sun Grown Maduro, it is wonderful (a slightly richer, tastier counterpart of Oliva Master Blends 3, which is a great cigar) and also love the Rocky Patel Number 6. Most cigar brands go through a process where they create different variations of the same blend before they perfect the final blend used in the finished product. In this case, the Rocky Patel Number 6 was the sixth blend considered, hence the name. The Number 6 Corojo wrapper is grown in Honduras, the rest of this cigar contains mostly leaves from Rocky's farms. I'm a sucker for a somewhat sweet cigar, and the Number 6 balances sweetness and less-sweet flavors as good as any cigar I've ever had. There is a definite honey taste there, with a bit of of coffee, vanilla, and earth, balancing it. In cigars, there is what I call "good sweet," and there are machine-made and/or fruity-infused nightmares, and the Rocky Patel Number 6 does it right. One of my beefs with Rocky Patel has been construction. Poor burn and unraveling have been frequent for me in other RP smokes. But I've smoked a few Number 6 cigars, and burn and construction have been very good on all of them. My single complaint - and this will sound like an "old man yells at cloud" sort of thing - is the band. It is a pretentious, tuxedo-looking nightmare that consumes about half the length of the cigar. But if that's the best I can put in my negative-Nelly pile, it must be a darn good cigar. The Rocky Patel Number 6 is a very good cigar. I’d rate it a solid 8.75/10, bordering on great. Body is 6.0/10 a hair over down-the-middle medium. This smoke has been around a couple years now, so there are sometimes good deals to be had - but even at the US$10 price tag, it's a good choice.
