I just bought a 2014 Keystone Springdale 5th wheel from a dealer with delamination on the front panel beneath the Filon outer skin. The salesman was up front about the issue. This RV was otherwise in great condition, and I got a good buy on it. In my case, the delamination was definitely caused by a roof leak, not sun exposure. Before trading it in, the previous owner had the faulty roof seam re-caulked, and I could see that they used a Dicor-like product and did a good job on it. During my inspection, I used a moisture meter from inside where the paneling showed some buckling and confirmed it was still quite wet. I'm a skilled craftsman and not afraid to tackle stuff like this. So, after negotiating the price further down, I closed the deal and towed it home. I opened it up from the inside and found quite a mess – soggy insulation and what appeared to be a black mold in the insulation and on the surface of the substrate behind the Filon skin. But I was happy to find aluminum framing and not wood. I was amazed that the material behind the Filon was a paper product, like a thin cardboard which had largely disintegrated. I just finished the repairs. It took two days and about $150 of materials. I’m very happy with the results, so I thought I'd share the process that might be helpful to others facing a similar issue.
