This talk will introduce you to countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, the founder of the Hallwyl Museum in Stockholm, Sweden. Wilhelmina von Hallwyl was a Swedish collector of art and decorative arts. Here she is presented in the light of other great collectors in Sweden and abroad. Collectors who were active in the late 1800s and early 1900s. The countess built her collection in a time when iconic collections were built by other private collectors. She was evidently part of an international trend. Countess Wilhelmina von Hallwyl is compared with other contemporary collectors who shared similar collecting practices and who, like Wilhelmina, built broad collections. Several of these collectors shared the ambition that the collections and home would be shown as a museum. Lecture with Annika Williams, Curator the Hallwyl Collection. Museums mentioned in the film: The Wallace Collection, London Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire The Frick Collection, NYC Isabella Stewart Gardner, Boston Musée Jaquemart André, Paris Musée Nissin de Camondo, Paris
