Rehearse your entrance and movements. ➤ First of all, you will need a matte, not shiny, green cloth. If you don't have money for a professional chroma key screen, you should be able to find something that will work from craft or fabric stores. ➤ The important part of chroma key shooting is the lighting. You need to light your background so there are no dark patches and the colour is uniform. It's important that the characters don't cast a shadow on the chromakey. It’s best to highlight the main character to visually separate them from the background. We call this kind of lighting ‘back lighting’ because it creates a circle of light around a person. In a perfect world, you would have have 4 or 5 different sources of lighting: 2 for lighting the background, 1 or 2 to light the character in the frame, and one back light. ➤ After you’re done with shooting, it’s time to move to the editing stage. Upload your footage with the magical elements to your video editor. Use the chromakey tool to delete the green background from your footage. Be careful with the chromakey settings - pay particular attention to the borders of your clips so they don't have those black vertical bars. ➤ Add a teleporting effect to the moment when your hero appears. Then place the lightning bolts where your hands are waving in the video. ➤ Use the animation tool to make the lightning follow your hands. This is a pretty intense hands-on stage because the key points for the animation must be set in 1-2 frames to make the effect look real. ➤ We recommend you use a dynamic video as your background. ➤ Apply blurring to the teleporting effect and the lightning. Go to filters - blur – and choose bokeh blur-bang! It will help with smoothing the edges. ➤ Pick the appropriate colour filter for your video. Try to pick one that will deliver the best mood for your effects and background.
