Teach Your Dog to Stop Pulling on Leash (Without Force or Punishment) | Giving Into Leash Pressure

Does your dog pull on leash? It's not because they're being stubborn. It's because of something called the Opposition Reflex. The Opposition Reflex is something all living beings have. When you push against us, we push back. That's why your dog pulls when they feel leash pressure. This game is called "Giving Into Leash Pressure" and it teaches your dog to follow the pressure instead of fighting it. No force. No punishment. Just teaching your dog a new way to respond. Here's how the game works: Level 1: Standing Still Add gentle pressure to the leash while standing still. When your dog follows the pressure and comes back to you, mark it and give a treat. Practice until your leash is almost never tight. Level 2: Adding Distractions Throw a treat out of reach. Your dog will hit the end of the leash trying to get it. Wait for them to release the pressure by looking at you or coming closer. Mark it and give a treat by you. Level 3: Value Imbalance Throw one treat out as a distraction. When your dog comes back to you, mark it and give 3-4 treats by you. Then walk to the distraction together and let them "get it." The goal is simple: teach your dog that releasing leash pressure is what gets them what they want.
