B29 Superfortress CRASH SITE | Bleaklow near Glossop

29th December 2024 : Walk from A57 Snake Pass Summit to the B29 Superfortress crash site at Bleaklow. Weather was incredibly windy and the summit was just in the base of the clouds. Air temp about 4° C but wind-chill was well below freezing. We took the metalled footpath for the first mile then followed the muddy trail up to the peak where the scattered remains of the B29 Superfortress lie in memorial to the lost US aviators. We decided to take the direct route back to the car which was a more pleasant walk despite the two deep scars in the landscape causes by stream erosion. On the way back we needed some fluids and called in at Glossop Garden Centre Café where we treated ourselves to a Rocky Road and a Tiffin. Total walk was about 3½mi and took between 1¾hrs and 2hrs. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleak...
