The Eurofighter 2000 prototype first took to the air 20 years ago. Now known by most of its operators as the Typhoon, this formidable multi-role combat aircraft has since become very much an operational reality, in service not only with the air forces of Eurofighter partner nations Germany, Italy and the UK, but also those of Austria and Saudi Arabia. The Italian Air Force, which calls the aircraft the F-2000A (or TF-2000A in the case of two-seat versions), first displayed the Typhoon at RIAT last year and will do so again in 2014. It has five operational F-2000A squadrons; the display aircraft is due to come from Italy's military flight test establishment, the Reparto Sperimentale Volo.
