What causes the food dye molecules to move throughout the water? Why does this happen more quickly in the warm water? This science experiment is to find the rate of diffusion in hot water vs cold water. Materials required : 3 glasses of water (hot , cold and room temperature) food dyes. In this experiment the diffusion of food coloring in hot ,warm and cold water we can observe temperature effects the rate of diffusion. The process being much faster in hot water than in cold water. Reason is that water gets less viscous as it heats up.
