Wendell Fire Department did well designing their #Impel #Pumper! 🌟 This engine increases compartmentation, safety, functionality and ergonomics for the department. They chose the Impel™ chassis for the reduced maintenance cost, longevity and ergonomics for their firefighters. The #TAK4 Independent Front Suspension offers seamless drivability and braking across their 45 square miles of coverage area in #RaleighNC. Lights are mounted to the inside of the doors to increase firefighter safety on highway incidents. Hose preconnects were moved to the outside of the pump panel as opposed to being inside the hosebed for rapid pump operator awareness and on scene versatility. The hosebed is only 5’ 7” from the ground with preconnected hose lines on the rear to increase ergonomics. External ladder and high-rise pack storage on the officer’s side will be rapidly retrievable to support calls in the multi-family and multi-story development areas. Grab bars on the interior of the crew cab doors make it easier for firefighters to get in and out of the cab. Inside the cab, a mounting plate runs the full width and length of the engine tunnel to mount radio chargers, thermal imaging cameras, a Knox Box and key holders. To not hinder the officer’s field of vision, the mobile data terminal (MDT) computer will be stored in the recessed compartment in front of their seat. A front intake enables firefighters to run tanker and shuttle operations removing the need to draft off the side. This will be utilized on two-lane roads in areas without fire hydrants to allow one lane of traffic to stay open.
