A few thousand protestors marched through the streets of downtown St. Louis Saturday as part of the nationwide series of "No Kings" protests planned against the actions of the Trump administration. The rain-soaked crowd made its way from Kiener Plaza down Market Street shouting slogans about No Kings and against ICE and holding signs about fascism and saying that protesting is American. "It is pouring rain on us from this administration. It's a total storm because of what the (Trump) administration is bringing down upon us," said protester Cheyenne Slack. “It makes me feel like I’m not alone,” said Julie Gundlach, who was in the crowd Saturday. “Missouri can be a pretty conservative state and until you come out and see all the people fighting in the thunder and the lightning, it’s reassuring that we’re in it together.” The protests have been denounced by Republicans as "Hate America" protests and have been championed by groups who said that protests are a uniquely American form of political speech. Republican Senator Josh Hawley posted on X Saturday against the protests. The Kiener Plaza protest was one of a half dozen or so that were planned for Saturday, when the area was experiencing its first significant rain in several months.
