Ultrasonic flowmeter OPTISONIC 7300 and OPTISONIC 8300 | KROHNE

Doing gas flow measurement the right way can be a challenge. Besides measuring the flowrate, most conventional flowmeters need to compensate for gas density and composition variations. This combination does add to the complexity of selecting and applying the right flow measurement solution. The KROHNE OPTISONIC 7300 ultrasonic flowmeter offers a way to simplify gas flow measurement. The ultrasonic transit time measurement principle operates independently of the gas composition, its density and its flow speed. Different to the more traditional measurement principles, it is not directly affected by composition, temperature, pressure or other properties of the gas. For example, it can measure flow speed at atmospheric conditions up to a pressure as high as 450 bar. For the sizing of the flowmeter no specific knowledge is required. It features a full bore, unobstructed flow tube and measures from zero flow up to at least 30 m/s. The OPTISONIC 7300 comes from the factory as a fully working and calibrated instrument and does not need any field assembly or adjustment, ensuring low installation and commissioning costs. To provide standard volume flow measurement, the OPTISONIC 7300 uses an internal flow computer, and uses data from sensors measuring gas pressure and temperature to compute standard and normal flow acc. to a selection of international standards. Diagnostics are available in the OPTISONIC 7300 to check the proper operation of the sensors and system. The velocity of sound in the gas, plus the acoustic signal quality and strength are continuously measured, enabling this verification. In combination with the temperature, the velocity of sound can also be used to calculate the molecular weight of the gas in the pipe, which can be a useful product quality measurement.
