Welcome to the Hospitality Careers Program at Davies Career and Technical High School! As one of the top-growing industries both in Rhode Island and nationwide, the hospitality field offers exciting career opportunities. Our industry-based program, accredited by the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF), is designed to equip students with essential skills for success in the food service and hospitality industry. Our curriculum, developed by the Education Foundation of the National Restaurant and Lodging Association, covers a range of topics including: Food Preparation Baking Nutrition Safety and Sanitation Commercial Tools and Equipment Customer Relations and Management Skills Work Ethics Students benefit from hands-on experience in our fully equipped training kitchen and bakery, applying their classroom knowledge to real-world food preparation. They also get the chance to prepare and serve food at various school events, including weekly specials in our Patriot Dining Room. The program features the ProStart curriculum, a two-year track that prepares students for entry-level jobs and further education in hospitality. Each year, select students compete in the state-level ProStart competition, with opportunities to advance to the national stage. Since 2012, Davies has proudly sent four teams to national competitions. With the hospitality industry as a top growth sector, our program prepares students for diverse roles including culinary arts, food service management, and food sustainability. Graduates are equipped with valuable skills in problem-solving, professionalism, creativity, and more.
