Norful, PhD, RN, ANP-BC • Cheryl Westlake, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, FHFSA, FAHA, FAAN • Moderator: Mary Fran Tracy, PhD, APRN, CNS, FCNS, FAAN The aim of this session is to generate awareness and provide a platform for discussion of the expectations, daily practice patterns, and measures of success associated with the nurse scientist role in the health system or clinical practice setting. Real-world experiences from three nurse scientists in the clinical setting or in an academic-practice joint appointment with a directive to advance nursing science in the clinical setting will be presented via a moderated panel discussion. These nurse scientists will: (1) present distinctly varied ways this role has been defined and implemented; (2) describe the opportunities and challenges encountered by nurse scientists in the clinical and academic settings; (3) discuss the value advancing nursing science in the clinical setting has to the profession and to society; and (4) discuss the future of this role in today’s environment.
