Powerful pedagogical approaches are rarely based on a single perspective. What is interesting – and challenging – is to combine different perspectives and ideas in smart ways to gain real pedagogical power. The talk will illustrate benefits that can be had when educators and learning scientists leave simplistic and often ideologically colored questions – and answers – behind. It will discuss important factors such as: using innovative research methods to get really close to the learning processes as they happen; setting up close collaboration between teachers, researchers, and students; and having the courage to dismiss cherished theories and favorite models in view of evidence. Professor in Cognitive Science, Linköping University and Lund University. Samples from her Research Domain: Next generation educational software, as research instruments and as real-world-value tools to support learners and teachers. At what age can a child learn for herself by teaching someone else? How do different students behave when learning is not easy and they don't make progress? This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
